Day's End and Weekend Watch

The news today is making me cranky. Time for a day off.

Here are some remains of the day:

* House passes one and defeats another resolution on Iran nuclear deal, largely on party-line vote (25 Dems voted against approval of the deal), with it all made irrelevant by yesterday's developments in the Senate.

* This is getting really blatant: New York Times publishes a long tick-tock on HRC's decision to apologize for emails. You'd think they were reporting on the runup to a war.

* Darrin Lahood, son of Ray, wins special election in IL to succeed resigned-in-disgrace Rep. Aaron Schock.

* At Ten Miles Square, James Wimberly provides his (and others') answer to a challenge to summarize the history of the world from 1700-2300 A.D. from the perspective of the 30th century.

* At College Guide, Daniel Luzer looks at the alarming loss of school libraries.

And in non-political news:

* A collapsing crane at Mecca's Grand Mosque kills at least 87. Had it been during the Hajj, which begins in two weeks....you can only imagine the carnage.
