Day's End and Night Watch

I seem to be one of the few gabbers out there who even paid attention to Bobby Jindal's big Trump speech. Serves him right.

Here are some remains of the day:

* Ari Berman reports Sen. Lisa Murkowski has become first Republican member of Congress to cosponsor robust legislation to restore the Voting Rights Act of 1965. It's a start.

* Brother Benen makes short work of Mike Huckabee's claim the Dred Scott decision remains the "law of the land." Sure, if you ignore the Civil War and the 13th and 14th amendments!

* Sarah Posner exposes the shadowy "ministry" behind the Duggars' shady history of dealing with sexual abuse.

* At College Guide, Daniel Luzer argues that complacent talk about the end of college as we know it gives short shrift to first-generation-of-college students who need the support infrastructure of a brick-and-mortar institution.

* At The Grade Alexander Russo asks people on both sides of education debates to judge education news on something other than which side "won."

And in non-political news:

* Oh God: Toys R Us already out with "hot toys for holidays" list.

That's it for Thursday. Let's close with an appropriate happy hour tune from Barbecue Bob: "Me and My Whiskey."

Selah.
